About Us

The Integrated Day Charter School, in partnership with its children, families and community provides a safe, flexible and academicall challenging learning environment that meets the unique social, emotional, academic and physical needs of each child.

Founded in 1997, the Integrated Day Charter School (IDCS) serves students from pre-kindergarten through grade eight in Norwich, Connecticut, and 16 surrounding towns. Housed in a beautifully renovated former Thermos Factory directly on the Thames River, our school offers a unique learning environment that blends history, innovation, and natural beauty. Students enjoy bright, open classrooms with high ceilings and river views, while our playgrounds overlook the river—where eagles are often seen soaring.

We are more than a school; we are a community. From our founding mothers—Joan Heffernan, June Morrone, and Joyce Werden, along with volunteer Sandy Quarto—to parents and community members, IDCS was built through collaboration, vision, and dedication to providing an integrated, alternative educational experience.
