SBAC Testing April 21 - May 20

Posted Date: 04/07/26 (11:13 AM)

Dear Parent or Guardian,

From April 21 to May 26, the Connecticut State Department of Education requires students to take the Smarter Balanced Assessments (SBAC). These tests cover Math and English Language Arts for grades 3–8, with grades 5 and 8 also taking the Next Generation Science Standards assessment (NGSS). The assessments align with state learning standards in ELA, Math and Science. Students will complete the tests on Chromebooks during school, mostly in the morning. For more information, you can access the SBAC/NGSS website at https://portal.ct.gov/SDE/Student-Assessment/Main-Assessment/Parent-Resources.

We want all of our students to put forth their best effort when taking these assessments. Here are a few ways you can ensure that your child/ren are ready to do their best:

  1. It is important that your child/ren arrive on time for school each day as test sessions will begin shortly after arrival.

  2. Extended absences can make test make up sessions difficult to schedule. While illness cannot be predicted, please plan other absences from school accordingly.

  3. If your child is sick, there is no worry, as all students will have opportunities to make up assessments.

  4. Please ensure that your child/ren are well-rested and have had breakfast so that they are ready for the test. As a reminder, we provide a no cost breakfast daily at IDCS, so please encourage your children to eat breakfast here if they skipped breakfast at home.

  5. An extra snack will also be provided to students on their scheduled test days.

  6. Encourage your child/ren to do their best!
